Do You Have What It Takes?
Thank you for visiting OnTheBump.com. My name is Ian Jones and I am founder of On The Bump™. I have resided in the Las Vegas valley for over 27 years. Having worked with 1500+ students individually and worked with thousands of kids at numerous camps on the West Coast, Alaska, and Hawaii, I believe in giving back to this sport as much as I gained from it. I have seen the competition increase immensely over the years here in Las Vegas since my little league days and I would like to see as many kids as possible have the opportunity to enjoy baseball as much as I did throughout my playing career. In August of 2002 many parents encouraged me to take things to the next level from youth coaching and therefore, I looked into consulting as a private pitching instructor. For this reason I originally started up OnTheBump™.For 7 years, I have been providing Pitching Instruction to players all over the greater Las Vegas area.

Providing private instruction through OnTheBumpô has been fun, and extremely rewarding. Slowly but surely over the years I have seen baseball around the Las Vegas valley making a name for itself nationally. On any given day during the baseball season you can still go to a baseball park complex and witness a majority of players lacking a fundamental approach to the games they play in. This will never change as enthusiastic parents introduce baseball to their kids every year. In understanding that being a great youth baseball coach is not easy, I applaud the efforts of all coaches. Whether it is finding a private instructor, going to the local indoor batting cage facility, going out to a park, or practicing in your backyard; all coaches with playing experience beyond high school baseball will agree that 'extra work' is required for players to keep up with the competition these days. An effective coach/instructor/mentor should emphasis that very point when coaching his players.

On a personal note, beginning with my Senior Major Green Valley Little League All-Star team that placed 3rd in the United States and 4th in the World, I quickly learned that the competitive aspect of baseball, particularly pitching, was my forte. I was fortunate enough to play for Nevada's most heralded high school coach, Rodger Fairless. It was at Green Valley High School that I learned much of the competitive philosophy I live by today. During my career at GVHS, the school won 4-straight 4A Nevada State Baseball Championships and the wins extended to 9 State Championships in 11 years. My GVHS career win-loss record for High School and Legion was 50-2.

Thereafter, I went on to play Division 1-A College Baseball for the University of Hawaii Rainbow Baseball team for the 1998 to 2000 seasons. While there, I tied the career mark for Most Relief Appearances in the school's history. Leading in both my Freshman and Sophomore seasons in pitching appearances, I was very fortunate to pitch in various roles - from being a spot starter, to long relief and even to closing out a game.

While I've always had a great passion for pitching, my playing career came to an abrupt end after I suffered two elbow surgeries as a result of overuse during my first two years in college. Upon realizing my career was essentially over, I received my degree, returned back to Las Vegas and started consulting as a pitching instructor through OnTheBumpô. I am a firm believer that a player can learn so much about life and about themselves through sports. Professional instruction is a great avenue in assisting players to find a way to use their experiences in baseball and apply those to every day life effectively. Although we cannot assist every player in Souther Nevada, we look forward to helping those willing to give us a chance.
